Pune: Dattaji Gavhane Sports Ground, located in Shivneri Nagar, Kondhwa Khurd Sector No 27 has become a den for illegal activities. Issue of alcohol consumption, garbage dumping, lack of security, cleanliness, broken barbed wire and absence of basic facilities such as water supply & many other problems is rampant here.

Prasad Mahadev Babar, President, Aai Pratishthan, a Social Organization highlighted, “ Due to no proper maintenance, grass has grown here. People who come here for morning and evening walks have to face the unbearable stink of garbage. The barbed wire is also broken in numerous places. The 70 lakh liters capacity water tank has no water in it. There is no security guard in the ground as well and his cabin is used as a den to consume alcohol by miscreants. The key to the main gate of the ground is kept in a nearby electricity meter box which has access to everyone. As a result, anyone can access it anytime. A lot of illegal activities also take place here. The civic body is not doing anything to address these issues.”

Sham Taru, PMC Ward Officer, Wanowrie Ramtekdi said, ” Whenever complaints from the public come to us, we immediately clean the entire ground. Though it is not the responsibility of our department, we will continue to clean it whenever we receive complaints from the public.”

Chhabil Patel, Founder of Kondhwa Vikas Aghadi, said “The condition of Dattabhau Ghavane playground in Kondhawa Khurd has become such that it is not a playground but it has become a haunt of drunkards. Due to the laziness of the administration, alcohol, ganja and charas have become dens there. The Pune municipal administration must use the citizens’ money for children to play and the people there will be healthy. The administration should speed up the security arrangements & other things for the playground.”

Pune Pulse tried to contact the PMC officials of the relevant department but they kept passing the responsibility from one department to another.
