Pune News: Pune Traffic Police imposes 40km/hour speed limit for heavy vehicles between Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge on Mumbai-Bangalore Highway to curb accidents

Pune: In order to curb accidents on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, Pune Traffic Police has issued orders for heavy vehicles to follow 40 km/hour speed limit between Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge. The decision to implement the speed limit comes as a response to the various accidents that have occurred in this particular stretch primarily attributed to overspeeding.    

It is worthy to note that the speed limit has been implemented after considering suggestions from various stakeholders. Additionally, in this particular area, a total of 84 deaths, 235 injuries, 215 accidents and 165 cases of vehicle damage were reported in 9 years from April 2014 to April 2023. 

As per information, in order to control the frequent accidents on the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway, it is necessary to control the speed of heavy, heavy vehicles plying through this area. For this, under Sections 115, 116 (1) (a) (b), 116 (4) and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijaykumar Magar, has issued a 40 km/hour speed limit for all types of heavy, bulky vehicles such as tractor-trailer combination, truck-trailer, articulated vehicles, multi-axle vehicles, containers, oversized goods transporting vehicles and many more commuting between Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge on the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway.
