The ‘River Cyclothon 2023’ has been arranged as part of the Indrayani River Cleanliness Awareness Campaign.

The primary objective is to ensure the pollution-free and pristine condition of our beloved Indrayani River. This noble cause has been given utmost importance. It is worth mentioning that the project was recognised and included in the prestigious India Book of Records last year.

The MLA Mahesh Landge has taken the lead in organising this initiative, aiming to set a new record for the ‘Longest Line of Bicycles (Static)’ in the Guinness World Records.

The event is scheduled to take place on December 2 at 6 am, at Bhosari Gavjatra Ground. Additionally, on Sunday, December 3, the River Cyclothon Rally will be held at Bhosari Gavjatra Ground, as announced by Labour Leader Sachin Landge.

Dr. Nilesh Londhe, the Chief Coordinator of River Cyclothon, along with Sachin Landge, Digambar Joshi of Aviral Shramdaan, Dr. Anand Pise, Sachin Margaz, Cycle Mitra Bapu Shinde of Pune, Santosh Gadhve, representative of Maheshdada Sports Foundation, Kiran Gaikwad, the Public Relations Officer of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Bapu Bangar of Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, Salunkhe of Traffic Department, Milind Verlekar, the felicitator of Guinness World Records, and other social organisations graced the event with their presence.

Dr. Nitin Londhe announced that the River Cyclothon is scheduled to take place on Sunday, featuring three divisions: 5 km, 15 km, and 25 km. The event is anticipated to attract over 25,000 cyclists.

The Police Department of Pimpri Chinchwad will be organising this year’s river cyclothon, which is the main highlight of the event. Additionally, the rally aims to encourage the members of the police department to adhere strictly to the road regulations. In order to promote the control of noise pollution, every Monday of the week will be designated as a ‘horn-free’ day, emphasising the importance of refraining from honking. The Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate, along with police officials and staff, will take the lead in raising awareness, ultimately designating every Wednesday as Cycle Day.

The planning initiative has been taken by various organisations such as Continuous Shramdaan, Cycle Mitra, Mahesh Dada Sports Foundation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Department, and other environment-conscious groups. Joshi has informed all schools and housing societies in the Pimpri Chinchwad area about the two programmes and the Indrayani river cleaning campaign after visiting them.

Shekhar Singh, the Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, along with Vinay Kumar Choubey, the Police Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad, and MLA Mahesh Landge, have jointly urged all the residents of Pimpri Chinchwad to actively engage in this endeavour.
