Pune News: Sandalwood Tree Theft Strikes Shirole Road BungalowÂ
Pune, October 21, 2024: Yet another sandalwood tree theft has been reported in Pune, this time from Shivrai bungalow on Shirole Road. According to an FIR lodged on Saturday, unidentified thieves broke into the bungalow around 4:30 am on October 2, stealing a sandalwood tree worth Rs 40,000. The owner of the bungalow was not home during the incident, police said.
Sub-inspector Mahesh Bhosale, the investigation officer, stated that CCTV footage near the crime scene has provided leads. This theft adds to a growing list of similar incidents in the city.
Earlier, on October 6, another sandalwood log valued at Rs 25,000 was stolen from Chhaya society on Law College Road. A 57-year-old resident filed the FIR. In a more brazen theft on August 11, a gang of eight uprooted a 70-year-old sandalwood tree from a bungalow on Prabhat Road, threatening residents with weapons.
Several other sandalwood thefts have occurred in recent months. These include a September 19 incident at an Army officer’s residence in Ghorpadi Bazar, and another on September 18 in Mitra Mandal Colony, where a tree worth Rs 50,000 was stolen.
Authorities are investigating these recurring thefts, but no arrests have been made so far.
