Pune News : Undri based senior citizen falls victim to PAN card update scam

Pune: A senior citizen resident of Hills and Dales Society, Undri fell victim to a fraudulent scheme under the pretext of updating his PAN card. The victim is identified as Alok Harikishanlal Chhibbar.  

As per information, the fraudsters contacted Chhibbar claiming that failure to update his PAN card would result in its closure. He was told to download an application named ‘APK’ to comply. As soon as Chhibbar downloaded the application, the perpetrators had total control over Chhibbar’s phone.

As per information, the fraudsters used this access to their advantage and stole a sizable amount of money—roughly Rs 13,86,000 thousand—from Chhibbar’s bank account. Chhibbar, distressed by the fraudulent activity, reported the incident right away and filed a case at the Kondhwa Police Station. Chhibbar’s complaint was initially handled by the cyber police, who recognized the fraud’s cybercrime nature and forwarded the case to the Kondhwa police for additional investigation.
