Marunji, Pune – Residents of Elysium Society, Spring Woods and Candy Flower, are grappling with serious infrastructure challenges due to a poorly maintained road leading to their homes. The road, which serves as the primary access route for several houses, bungalows, and unmarked apartments, has become nearly impassable.
Despite being approved by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), local residents have obstructed the construction of necessary road improvements. They have illegally occupied parts of the road and are intentionally blocking access by placing tree branches and large stones.
The road is in such a poor condition that it features potholes 20 to 30 meters long, filled with water up to 2 to 3 feet deep. This makes navigation extremely difficult, causing ride-sharing services like Ola and Uber to refuse to enter the area.
The lack of proper road infrastructure is significantly affecting daily life for residents, making it crucial for authorities to address these issues promptly and ensure the road is accessible and safe for all.
When Pune Pulse spoke to the Executive Engineer Vijay Kandgave, Infrastructure Department, PMRDA, he said that there are many roads in the area which fall into jurisdiction of various government authorities such as PMRDA, PWD, Zilla Parishad. Since our DP is not approved we aren’t able to carry out any development work. But PMRDA shall respond to the queries raised to ease out the problems.
Poonam Samir Buchade, former Sarpanch of Marunji village said, “We have taken several follow ups with the PMRDA, PWD and ZP. It is the responsibility of the MIDC, PMRDA, ZP, PWD to create an infrastructure for the IT companies as well as the other industries to flourish. This area is mainly dominated by IT professionals and companies but sadly they don’t have the required infrastructure such as roads, water supply, power supply, waste management, etc.
