Pune: Over 200 Kharadi Residents Protest Against Contaminated Water From Tankers, Demand Water Supply From PMC
Pune, January 6, 2025: Over 200 residents of Nyati Elysia Society in Kharadi staged a protest march against the supply of contaminated water from a sewage treatment plant (STP). The march, which started at 10:30 AM on January 5 and concluded by noon, highlighted the growing frustration among residents over the health issues caused by the water supply. The residents are hoping for a solution to the increasing water problems from the Pune Municipal Corporation and are looking forward to the potable drinking water supply from the corporation.
For months, society members have faced illnesses such as typhoid, diarrhea, and severe stomach aches due to the polluted water. According to the residents, a private water tanker vendor has been delivering untreated water sourced directly from the STP near the Mula-Mutha River in Kharadi, instead of clean, potable water.

One resident shared, “The water we’ve been receiving is causing serious health concerns. Despite raising complaints, the situation has not improved, forcing us to take this step.”
The protest march aimed to bring attention to this pressing issue and demand immediate action from authorities to ensure safe drinking water for the society. Residents also called for stricter regulations on tanker operators to prevent such incidents in the future.
The situation has raised significant concerns about public health and water management in the area, prompting the need for urgent intervention from the municipal authorities.
