Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has achieved a significant milestone in its endeavor to enhance the city’s aesthetics, marking the completion of the first phase of its heritage beautification project. The initiative, which focuses on painting buildings, footpaths, and bus stops along the corridor near Shaniwarwada and Vishrambaugwada, aims to rejuvenate Pune’s urban landscape.

Inspired by traditional wada themes, the project seeks to blend modernity with Pune’s rich heritage, as highlighted in a recent PMC press release. Despite facing delays initially due to concurrent infrastructural developments, the city administration remained steadfast in its commitment to revitalizing key areas such as Shaniwarwada, Nanawada, and Dagdusheth Ganpati.

The executive engineer overseeing PMC’s heritage cell expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming phases of the project, which will further showcase the city’s heritage walk routes on both national and international tourist circuits. With tender invitations already issued, the commencement of the second phase is imminent.

PMC’s identification of 251 heritage properties into Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3 structures underscores Pune’s rich historical tapestry. Notable landmarks such as Delhi Darwaja, Shaniwarwada, Kasba Ganpati, Lal Mahal, Nanawada, and Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati are included in the heritage walk, inviting visitors to explore the city’s vibrant history.

This concerted effort not only rejuvenates Pune’s urban spaces but also encourages visitors to delve into its cultural legacy, fostering a deeper appreciation for its heritage. As the project progresses, Pune is poised to emerge as a premier destination for heritage enthusiasts and tourists alike.
