Pune: PMC Suspends Junior Engineer For Failing To Report For Election Duty
Pune, December 26, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended a junior engineer for failing to perform election-related duties during preparations for the upcoming PMC General Elections 2025–26.
According to an official statement issued by the PMC Election Office, Ammina Gadivadar, a Junior Engineer attached to the Public Works Department’s Pune 1 Office, was deputed for election duty at the Kondhwa–Yewalewadi Regional Office. However, she did not report as instructed, leading to disruption in election-related arrangements.
The Election Office reiterated that election duty is considered a mandatory civic responsibility under Section 14 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act. It further stated that all officers and employees assigned election work are legally bound to comply with orders issued in line with guidelines from the State Election Commission.
Taking serious note of the lapse, the Returning Officer ordered Gadivadar’s suspension with immediate effect. The decision, officials said, was taken to ensure discipline and smooth conduct of the election process.
The PMC Election Office has also issued a stern warning to all civic officials and staff, stating that strict action will be initiated against anyone who fails to report for election duty without valid justification. Authorities emphasised that timely cooperation from municipal employees is crucial to ensuring free, fair, and orderly elections.
With election preparations underway across the city, the PMC has urged all assigned personnel to adhere strictly to their responsibilities and support the democratic process.
