Pune : PMC to build road under Gunjan Talkies to Kalyani Nagar Metro line

To reduce & ease traffic flow on Nagar Road, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will construct a road under the metro viaduct/metro line going from Gunjan Talkies Chowk to Kalyani Nagar.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vikas Dhakane, Additional Municipal Commissioner, PMC, said, “A road will be constructed from Gunjan Talkies Chowk to Kalyani Nagar under the metro viaduct. Due to this, people commuting towards Kalyani Nagar, Kharadi, Magarpatta, Koregaon Park, Hadapsar, etc can use this road & directly go through Gunjan Talkies Chowk. It will also be convenient for traffic coming from Pune Airport to use this road to go to the other side. The traffic on Nagar Road will also be reduced & eased due to this additional road. The road will be around 18 meters wide. A tender has been floated regarding this project &, in around a month, the road construction will be completed.”

As per further information, although the Kharadi-Shivane road is an ambitious project of the Pune Municipal Corporation, the road has been stalled for many years due to land acquisition issues. Most of the work on the eastern part of this road from Kharadi to Gunjan Talkies Chowk has been completed. There is a situation where the ready road cannot be used due to the stalling of land acquisition for connecting Gunjan Talkies.

Maha Metro built a metro line by erecting pillars at this place. This line passes through the Kharadi-Shivane road. Therefore, the municipal corporation decided to build a road under this metro line to connect this road from the Nagar Road.
