The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch weekly organic vegetable markets at four key amenity spaces—Lohegaon, Baner, Pashan, and Bavdhan—in the coming months. This initiative, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Government and the World Bank, aims to provide residents with pesticide-free produce while offering local farmers a profitable market for their fresh, quality agricultural products.
PMC Joint Commissioner BP Prithviraj confirmed that the markets would be operational within the next two months. “The weekly farmers’ market will be elevated and upgraded, ensuring residents have access to organic, fresh fruits and vegetables. This will help farmers earn better prices for their produce and reduce traffic congestion in the selected areas,” he said.
To facilitate the markets, suitable plots of land owned by the PMC have been inspected by the Agriculture Marketing Board, Pune. Once proposals are submitted, they will be reviewed and approved by the relevant regional or ward offices. Approval for the plots will be processed within 15 days if no administrative issues arise.
