For the past few weeks, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus passengers have been experiencing problems with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which has prevented many of them from paying for their tickets by making UPI payments while inside the bus. On Saturday and Sunday, PMPML officials said that the problem was transient and had since been fixed.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Satish Gate, PRO, PMPML, said “For 2 to 3 days, the server of the UPI payments gateway was down. However, the issue has been resolved now. Hence, it is strongly recommended for passengers to effectively use UPI QR codes inside the buses to make bus ticket payments.”

To assist passengers in avoiding the inconvenience of keeping a change and reducing the likelihood of corruption, PMPML began UPI payment for city buses. The system was well-received by travelers at first. But now, travelers say they are having problems.

Passengers claim that they do not receive a QR Code for their tickets, even when they ask for one. Bus conductors, on the other hand, are requesting cash from passengers. Also, conductors point out problems with the UPI system, which can make passengers uncomfortable and often spark arguments.
