Pune: PMRDA Launches Crackdown On Illegal Hoardings
Pune, April 7, 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has launched a strict drive against illegal and hazardous hoardings across its jurisdiction, with Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari directing officials to take immediate and firm action against violators.
The move comes amid rising complaints from citizens regarding the unchecked spread of unauthorized hoardings in areas such as Mulshi, Maval, Haveli, Khed, and Shirur talukas. A high-level review meeting was held at the PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi on Monday, attended by senior officials including Development Permission Director Avinash Patil and Deputy Commissioner Asha Holkar.
As part of new regulatory measures, PMRDA has made it mandatory for all authorized hoardings to include QR codes and geo-fencing features. The authority will also implement a fully online and transparent permission system to streamline approvals and enhance monitoring.
Commissioner Chaudhari has given hoarding owners a final opportunity to complete the legal permission process. Those with pending applications or unpaid fees have been asked to submit complete proposals immediately. Authorities warned that demolition drives will begin this week against those who fail to comply despite prior notices.
To further clarify the administration’s stance, a special meeting with hoarding agencies has been scheduled for April 9 at 1:30 PM. Officials stated that strict enforcement will follow, including removal of illegal structures and legal action against repeated offenders.
