Joint action will now be taken by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) along with the Pune Police to remove encroachments, pedestrians staying on footpaths, and unauthorized constructions in the city.

A joint action plan will be prepared after the meeting of the Commissioners of Pune Municipal Corporation and Pune Police.

Along with this, additional police commissioner of crime branch, deputy commissioner of police, and deputy commissioner of the PMC Encroachment Department have been appointed as nodal officers.

Through them, malpractices will now be curbed and concrete measures will be taken to prevent increasing attacks on municipal employees along with action on unauthorized constructions.

While taking action from various PMC departments, the police administration often did not take this seriously as, even in many serious cases, the police did not register cases.

Due to this, the municipal administration was facing obstacles in taking action. Against this backdrop, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, and former Pune Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr held a meeting at the Police Commissionerate on Tuesday (January 30).

Various topics were discussed in detail in this meeting.

In this, the Pune Municipal Corporation has started ‘night shelters’ for the homeless citizens of the city, still many homeless citizens stay roadside in the vicinity of the city’s main squares, major roads, railway station, bus stands, etc.

Taking action against them, during the action against encroachment and unauthorized construction, the officers and employees of the municipal corporation are often attacked. As per the PMC, this wasn’t taken into account by the police.

Against this backdrop, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, and Deputy Commissioner of PMC Encroachment Department will act as nodal officers to take immediate action against those obstructing the functioning of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

These officers will coordinate the provision of manpower during the operation as well as prompt filing of crimes. Also, it was decided in this meeting that the Additional Commissioner of Crime Branch will also work as a nodal officer to immediately register cases regarding abuses and beatings of municipal officials and employees. Also, PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar said that a meeting will be held every 15 days, in which the action will be reviewed.
