Pune: Police Seize Over ₹1 Crore Cash, Illegal Liquor in Kondhwa; I-T Probe Begins

Pune, December 25, 2025: In the run-up to the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, police carried out a major operation in the Kondhwa area, leading to the seizure of a large amount of cash and illegal liquor. Acting on a tip-off about illicit liquor storage, a police team from Kondhwa police station conducted a raid at the specified location. While expecting to find alcohol, the team instead recovered a substantial amount of cash. More than ₹1 crore in cash was found hidden inside a locked cupboard, creating a stir in the area.

Suspects Detained, Income Tax Department Informed

Police immediately informed the Income Tax Department about the seizure, following which an Income Tax team reached the spot. Several suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the case. Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine who the cash belongs to, why such a large sum was kept at one place, and whether it has any connection with the upcoming civic elections. As the operation was carried out just ahead of the municipal polls, authorities are treating the matter with seriousness and probing all possible angles.

Details of Seized Material

According to official information, the action was carried out within the limits of Kondhwa Police Station at Kakade Vasti, Galli No. 2, Kondhwa, by API Afroz Pathan and the DB squad during a prohibition drive. The following items were seized:

80 pouches of 50 ml liquor – ₹1,600

Two cans (35 meters each), total 70 litres – ₹28,000

No.1 Whisky – 220 bottles – ₹48,400

IB Whisky – 183 bottles – ₹40,260

RS 180 ml – 224 bottles – ₹56,000

RS 90 ml – 20 bottles – ₹2,800

Classic Gold – 32 bottles – ₹4,800

Volkan Blue – 38 bottles – ₹6,080

Derby Special – 43 bottles – ₹6,880

Old Monk Rum – 48 bottles – ₹10,320

Tango Punch – 77 bottles – ₹6,160

The total value of seized liquor amounts to ₹2,05,900. Additionally, ₹1,41,050 in cash was found on the spot, taking the total initial seizure to ₹3,46,950.

During the operation, three individuals—Amar Kaur alias Madrikaur Dadasing Jooni, Dildar Singh Dadasing Jooni (35), and Devashri Jooni Singh—were allegedly found selling liquor illegally. As cash was found in their possession, police conducted a search of the woman’s residence. 

During the house search, cash amounting to ₹1,85,950 was recovered from different compartments of a bedroom cupboard. The amount was seized under panchnama for further investigation.

Police are continuing their probe to ascertain the source of the money and to verify whether the seizure has any electoral implications.
