A resident of the Mayur Kilbil society in the Dhanori area of Pune has written to Pune Pulse regarding power outages in Dhanori. He explained that there has been one since yesterday evening, and this has been the scenario since last week’s unseasonal rains in the area. When citizens call and try to reach out to the authorities, the mobile network of several numbers is busy or they have blocked the number. When calling MSEDCL’s number, 1912, they say the number is not in use. They have also complained at the MSEDCL/MSEB’s other toll-free number 9930399303.

Pune Pulse also tried reaching out to the aforementioned contacts but faced the same issue. Numerous complaints are also being lodged online by the citizens. However, they remain unresolved, and they disconnect the call after 12 hours. These prolonged power cuts last even 5-6 hours, 2-3 times in the day. Hence there is no continuous supply of electricity.

Since it is the summer season with scorching heat in Pune city,  it has become tremendously difficult for people to rest without electricity. Young children are unable to sleep, do their homework or stay at home and it is also affecting their health. If such weather has to be faced without electricity it makes everyone restless and sick. Mr. Ajay Agarwal says “The MSEB (Maharashtra State Electricity Board) officials have become indifferent towards them and they’re all just the same (all authorities concerning the matter).”

We urge the MSEDCL to take immediate action towards providing help and resolving issues regarding electricity power cuts in the area, especially for inhumanely prolonged hours; the residents are paying their bills and dues and hence, require efforts to provide them with what they pay for. Such cuts require notifying, if for short periods, eg: the power cut on Thursdays in some areas of Pune city is for electricity maintenance work.
