Pune, June 16, 2026: After nearly three years of persistent follow-up, high-tension electricity poles that had become a major obstruction at Kad Nagar Chowk have finally been removed, bringing long-awaited relief to thousands of motorists and pedestrians using the busy junction every day.

Pune Pulse first reported the issue in the year June 2023.

The issue originated after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) widened the road in the area, leaving several high-tension electric poles standing in the middle of the carriageway. The poles created a dangerous bottleneck, forcing vehicles to navigate around them and posing a significant safety risk to commuters, especially during peak traffic hours.

Despite repeated complaints from residents and road users, the relocation work remained stalled for years due to a combination of factors, including funding constraints, technical approvals, and administrative delays. The prolonged inaction led to growing frustration among local residents who feared accidents and traffic congestion at the busy intersection.

In the year 2024, the matter was also raised with Shirur constituency Member of Parliament Dr Amol Kolhe but unfortunately the problem remained unresolved. Despite the area being under his constituency.

The breakthrough came in June 2026 when the PMC Electrical Department installed the required Ring Main Units (RMUs) at the chowk. Following the installation, the electrical network was successfully charged and tested in coordination with officials of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). Once the system was verified, the high-tension lines were shifted and the obstructing poles were removed.

The completion of the work marks a significant improvement in road safety and traffic flow at Kad Nagar Chowk. Residents say the junction can now function as intended, without the hazardous obstacles that had occupied the centre of the road for years.

Ankush Sarode, assistant engineer, Ganga Village section, Mohamadwadi told Pune Pulse that the poles will be removed in the next 48 hours at the most. The work for removing the conductors has already begun by the MSEDCL.

Pune Pulse has closely followed the issue over the past three years, regularly raising concerns with PMC, the Road Department, and MSEDCL, while highlighting the inconvenience and risks faced by citizens.

Local residents have acknowledged the efforts of PMC Electrical Department Head Manisha Shekatkar and Junior Engineer Girish Dabhewar, who worked diligently to resolve technical and administrative hurdles and ensure the project’s successful completion. Residents also expressed gratitude to MSEDCL official Ankush Sarode, Assistant Engineer, Ganga Village section, MSEDCL for expediting the final stages of the work during June 2026.

With the removal of the poles, Kad Nagar Chowk is finally set to breathe a sigh of relief, ending a long chapter of delays and providing safer passage for commuters.
