Pune: Raid on pubs, bars, and restaurants in Hinjawadi

Pune- On Thursday morning, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) conducted a raid on 10 unauthorized bars, restaurants, and rooftop hotels in Hinjawadi. The anti-encroachment team of the authority stepped forward to take this much-necessary action yesterday morning as the district collector seemed to turn a blind eye towards it. Around 97,815 square feet of unauthorized construction was demolished in the operation.

The PMRDA anti-encroachment squad had failed to get a full-time officer which led to a cooldown of hearings and trespassing operations. However, an officer was appointed to the encroachment department during the elections and no action could be taken at that time due to the model code of conduct. As soon as the vote-counting process was done on Tuesday, this action was taken from 7 am on Thursday. The entire staff of the encroachment department was present at the spot. Following the encroachment that was seen on Laxmi Chowk in Hinjewadi, action was taken and unauthorized bars, rooftop hotels, and restaurants were evicted six months later.

The operation continued throughout the day and 97, 815 square feet of unauthorized bars, pubs, and restos were demolished with the help of Poclain, JCBs, and some manpower. Such operations will be continued in other areas as well and the officials of the PMRDA’s Anti-Unauthorized Construction Department present at the location have requested people to not carry out such constructions.
