Pune: Prasar Bharati has announced the closure of Akashwani Pune’s regional news unit from June 19, 2023, leading to disappointment among the people. Now, the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) Akashwani Centre will now air Pune’s news pieces.
As per the information, the posts of full-time deputy director as well as news editor for the Pune unit were lying vacant for a long time, hence the decision was taken to close the unit.
The Pune regional news section, which used to broadcast on Akashwani at 7:10 am and the FM channel at 8 am, 10 am, 11:58 am, and 6 pm will be removed as a result of this decision. In addition, the 8:30 a.m. national news bulletin will also be discontinued. These news segments will now be provided by the Aurangabad centre. The shutdown of the regional news section in Pune, on the other hand, has raised questions about how news linked to Pune will be broadcasted from Aurangabad.
Akashwani has been broadcasting & delivering news for the state from the Pune news unit since May 1, 1975. Even in this age of social media & internet, the audience of radio news still listens to Akashwani every day. Hence, from June 19, eager radio news listeners will have to find another medium to listen to the news and updates.
