The continuous traffic jam in Wagholi since a month has been reduced as the Lonikand Police Traffic Division has taken up a drive against motorists violating traffic rules. Even on Tuesday, the weekly market day, the citizens of this place got relief from the dilemma. However, citizens are of the opinion that it is necessary to increase the number of traffic police personnel to maintain this continuity.

Citizens were suffering due to continuous traffic jams on the Pune-Nagar highway in Wagholi. Going through Wagholi meant that the drivers coming from the city were also fearful. Assistant Police Inspector Gajanan Jadhav, Head of Lonikand Traffic Department, after taking charge, took up the drive to clear the gridlock.

They are carrying out campaigns like not allowing heavy traffic, taking action against vehicles violating traffic rules, bullet action, banning street vendors on market days for weeks, disciplining PMPML bus drivers etc. This gets rid of the dilemma.

The then Deputy Commissioner, Pune Traffic Police Shashikant Borate had also ordered the Lonikand Police Traffic Division to inspect Wagholi and take possible measures. But he was transferred elsewhere. Police Inspector Suresh Shinde has been appointed in Lonikand Traffic Department. He has taken charge just three days ago. At present, the work of installation of traffic signal is going on at BJS Chowk.
