The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has rescheduled its meeting on the contentious issue of cab fare hikes to ”Monday at 4 pm.” This decision has led various cab associations in the city to call off their two-day-long strike on ”Wednesday” bringing relief to commuters. The meeting, presided over by District Collector Suhas Diwase, will be held at 3 pm and will focus on the proposed rate adjustments.

The ‘Baghtoy Rickshawala’ organization, advocating for fair pricing, had demanded that cab companies align their rates with those set by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for metered taxis. However, the cab companies have adamantly refused to comply, sparking tensions in the transportation sector.

Transport organizations are calling on the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to take strong action against cab companies that are not complying with rules and regulations. The RTO has responded by issuing notices to these companies, asking for their comments on the matter. At the same time, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has warned of protests if these cab companies proceed with fare hikes.

District Collector Suhas Diwase’s decision to convene the RTA meeting on Monday is seen as a crucial step towards resolving the ongoing dispute. The meeting will delve into the intricacies of the fare hike proposal and associated issues. Meanwhile, Rickshaw Association President Keshav Kshirsagar is encouraging cab drivers to cease the strike, emphasizing the need for a harmonious approach.

Kshirsagar, however, issued a stern warning, stating, “If the issue remains unresolved, we will initiate protests from Monday onwards.” As anticipation builds for Monday’s meeting, Regional Transport Officer Sanjeev Bhor has called for unity and harmony among all stakeholders, urging them to await the meeting’s outcome.

The RTA meeting stands as a pivotal moment in determining the future of cab fares in the city, with various parties hoping for a resolution that balances the interests of both cab drivers and commuters.
