Pune: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has started carrying out drives to check illegally running school autos, vans, buses etc.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Commissioner, RTO Pune said, “RTO has started conducting a special citywide drive to crack down upon illegal autos, vans, school buses and other vehicles to check whether they have permits, licenses, auto rickshaws having proper badges and so on.”

He further said, “Along with these, the vehicles which carry cement or other construction materials are mandatory to have tarpaulins on the side. Even that will be checked thoroughly throughout the city.”

As per further information by Bhor, this citywide drive began on September 1 2023. So far, 60 to 65 vehicles carrying construction materials, which do not have tarpaulins on them, have been caught & fined appropriately.

The decision was taken after the officials found that some non-registered vehicles were being used for transporting kids to school. In addition, the vehicles were also found to be carrying more students than the permissible number. The RTO had received several complaints about non-registered vehicles in the past few days.

The officials of the RTO have warned the vehicle owners to adhere to the rules and get their vehicle’s fitness certificate before utilizing it to transport students. They also warned of taking action against vehicles found violating the rules.
