Pune: Seven MSRTC Staff Suspended For Reporting to Duty Drunk Amid Surprise Statewide Inspection
Pune, October 30, 2025: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that a surprise statewide inspection was carried out across all divisions of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to check the discipline and performance of its staff. During this operation, seven employees — including drivers, conductors, and mechanical workers — were found drunk while on duty.
Following the discovery, Sarnaik ordered immediate suspension and disciplinary action against the accused employees, stressing that such behaviour endangers public safety and will not be tolerated.
The inspection, which covered 1,701 employees statewide, revealed violations in Dhule, Nashik, Parbhani, Bhandara, and Nanded. Among them, a driver, conductor, and mechanical staff were found intoxicated during duty hours.
Sarnaik further announced that in future, new MSRTC buses will be equipped with breath analyser devices to prevent such incidents. He reaffirmed that passenger safety remains the top priority and that similar surprise inspections will continue regularly.
