Pune Sikh Community Celebrates Bal Diwas ; Honoring the Legacy of the Sahibzade
Pune: In a heartfelt tribute to the supreme sacrifice of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th Sikh Guru, the Sikh community of Pune gathered at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar in Pune Camp. The event, marked on 26th December, known as Bal Diwas, commemorated the valour and martyrdom of the Sahibzade, a cornerstone of Sikh history.
The Sahibzade – Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh – are remembered for their extraordinary courage and sacrifice. Their stories, etched deeply in Sikh tradition, teach the values of bravery and standing firm in one’s faith.
This year’s celebration saw a unique and touching display. Children, ranging from 6 months to 10 years old, donned the traditional Sikh uniform, Bana, symbolizing the Sant Sipahi (Saint Soldier) ethos. This act of remembrance connected the young with the inspiring stories of their past.
The highlight was the participation of 30 young Singhs and Kaurs, including Harchet Singh, Binnat Kaur, Zorawar Singh and Chetas Singh with Gurbaz Singh and Nimar Singh being the youngest at just 6 months old. Together, they took to the stage, filling the air with the soulful melodies of Gurbani hymns. Their voices, in unison, were not just a performance but a powerful reminder of the legacy they inherit and carry forward.
The event’s core aim was to imbue these young minds with a sense of their rich heritage. By recalling the sacrifices of the young Sahibzade, the community hopes to inspire the same spirit of righteousness and moral courage in its youth.
As the community came together in reverence and celebration, the day was not just a look back into history but a step forward in keeping the spirit of the Sahibzade alive. The Pune Sikh community’s commitment to teaching their young about the sacrifices made for their faith and principles serves as a beacon of inspiration, not just for the Sikh community but for all who value courage, integrity, and the unyielding fight for justice.
