Pune: Sinhagad Fort to Remain Closed for Tourists on January 21 Due To Pune Grand Challenge Tour
Pune, January 19, 2026: In an important update for Pune residents and tourists, Sinhagad Fort will remain completely closed to visitors on Wednesday, January 21, due to the second stage of the international cycling event, the Pune Grand Challenge Tour. Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has issued official orders stating that the fort will not be open for tourism from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on that day.
The second stage of the race will begin from the Pune Camp area and pass through Kondhwa, Narayanpur, Kapurhol, Khed Shivapur, and Kondhanpur before reaching the Sinhagad Ghat. The race will conclude near the Nanded City entrance via Donje and Kirkatwadi. The total distance of this stage is approximately 109 kilometres.
Due to this major sporting event, the Sinhagad Ghat Road and the route up to Nanded City will be completely closed to vehicular traffic. Traffic on the PuneāPanshet Road will also be diverted via alternative routes, informed Vaishali Patil, Police Inspector at Haveli Police Station. In view of these restrictions, the administration has appealed to tourists to avoid planning visits to Sinhagad Fort on Wednesday.
Additionally, in view of the cycling competition, the District Collector has declared a holiday for several schools and colleges in parts of the city. Owing to the āPrologue Raceā, major traffic changes have been implemented across Pune to prevent inconvenience to students and commuters.
On Monday, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, busy roads such as Fergusson College (FC) Road, Ganeshkhind Road, Jungli Maharaj (JM) Road, and all connecting internal roads will remain closed to traffic. Due to these large-scale traffic diversions in central Pune, traffic police have urged citizens to use alternative routes. Commuters have been advised to travel via Jahangir Chowk, RTO Road, Bolai Chowk, and Maldhakka Chowk to reach their destinations. Citizens have also been requested to avoid using private vehicles unless absolutely necessary.
