The Variable Optic Zone (VOZ) and Shearing Applied Force Extraction (SAFE) techniques, which Dr. Ladi created between 2022 and 2023, are changing how laser vision correction is conducted. Dr. Ladi recounted the case of a 30-year-old patient from Sudan who had been advised against laser vision correction because of his thin cornea and high myopia (-7 in the right eye and -6 in the left eye). However, thanks to the VOZ technique, which tailors the treatment of corneal tissue according to pupil size, the procedure was successfully carried out on January 4, 2025. The patient quickly regained his natural vision and left feeling satisfied.
“VOZ preserves over 30% of corneal tissue, greatly enhancing safety, while SAFE minimizes inflammation and speeds up recovery. Patients can return to their regular activities almost right away,” Dr. Ladi explained.
The SAFE technique is indeed a game changer in modern LASIK and SMILE procedures.
