Alandi, Pune: Reckless driving involving minors has once again come under scrutiny following an alarming incident in Vadgaon Ghenand near Alandi. On the 15th of this month, a 17-year-old boy, already known to law enforcement, drove a car at high speed, targeting a woman and endangering several bystanders.

Nazuka Ranjit Thorat, a resident of Vadgaon Ghenand, filed a complaint against the teenager. According to Alandi Police, the incident has gone viral on social media, causing an uproar among locals and drawing comparisons to the recent Porsche crash in Pune.

The Incident

According to the police report, Nazuka Thorat, who lives in Ganesh Nagar, Vadgaon Ghenand, was targeted by the teenager due to a prior dispute. The juvenile, driving a car (MH 14, HD 5749), accelerated towards Thorat, who escaped with minor injuries. The situation intensified as more people, some armed with wooden sticks, gathered. The teenager then reversed about 100 meters before speeding forward again, attempting to hit others. An elderly person narrowly avoided being struck.

After this dangerous act, the teenager climbed onto the car’s roof, removed his shirt, and directed obscene language at Thorat. Alandi Police have since charged him with attempted murder, and he has been detained in a juvenile correctional facility.

A Growing Concern

This incident highlights the increasing issue of minors driving at high speeds. The Alandi area, where land prices have risen, has seen families selling property and purchasing cars, leading to more young, inexperienced drivers on the roads. This trend raises significant safety concerns among residents.

Just two and a half months ago, another serious incident occurred in Charholi, where a traffic police officer was severely injured by a young driver. Residents are now calling for stricter enforcement against underage driving to prevent future occurrences.

Authorities are being urged to address this issue and enforce driving laws more strictly to ensure public safety.
