Pune Traffic Police and RTO in action against drunk drivers

To curb the increasing accidents in Pune city, a joint drive against motorists driving under influence of alcohol is being held by Pune City Traffic Police and Regional Transport Office, Pune. 

Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pune Sanjeev Bhor gave details about the initiative. He said, “Action is being taken at various places in Pune city. Four squads have been formed consisting of RTO officials and Pune Traffic Police. Areas such as Wanawadi, Viman nagar, Baner, Koregaon Park, Mundhwa, Kothrud, Hadapsar are some of the prominent areas where most of the restaurants are located and motorists drive after drinking. Our intention is to educate people to drive safely and without consumption of alcohol to curb accidents. We have been regularly conducting drives urging people to use helmets, obeying rules, driving vehicles with valid licenses only, etc.” 

The drink and drive action is being held between 9 PM and midnight. The Police and RTO Pune is also imposing fines on motorists driving under influence of alcohol. Also, many motorists are facing license suspension too.

Bhor also stated that action is also being taken in the police stations where maximum cases of accidents are being reported. Lonikand, Loni Kalbhor, Hadapsar and Vimantal are some of the stations where most of the accidents are being reported lately.

Suhail Inamdar, PSI, Wanowrie police station told Pune Pulse that drives were also held in Wanowrie and Kondhwa police station jurisdiction. Motorists jumping signals, not wearing helmets, expired fitness certificates, triple seat, driving without seatbelts, were imposed fines. Drive was held at Jyoti hotel chowk and Bhairoba Nala chowky area.

The drive will be held till May 31.
