In a bid to guarantee the safety and smoothness of New Year’s Eve festivities, the Pune traffic police are implementing strict measures to curb drunk driving.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Traffic), Vijay Kumar Magar, highlighted the need for responsible driving and following traffic regulations to uphold the festive atmosphere while ensuring public safety.

To accomplish this, the police plan to increase the presence of officers at various junctions across the city on December 30 and 31. Their goal is to monitor and discourage potential instances of drinking and driving.

Additionally, over 200 breath analyzers will be utilized to assess the alcohol levels of drivers, adding an extra layer of vigilance to ensure a secure celebration for everyone.

The traffic police are prepared to detain anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol or exceeding the speed limit.

Prioritizing Public Health and Safety Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases:

With the current uptick in COVID-19 cases, the police are keenly aware of the health risks associated with large gatherings. DCP Magar affirmed that in addition to overseeing the issue of drunk driving, the police force would dedicate efforts to thwart criminal activities and uphold comprehensive public safety measures.

Ahead of the festivities, a large police presence will be stationed in key areas like Koregaon Park, Viman Nagar, Hinjewadi, and Balewadi High Street. Drivers will be scrutinized, and legal actions will be taken against those found driving under the influence of alcohol.

DCP Magar reiterated that driving while intoxicated is a crime and stated that their efforts aim to prevent accidents and ensure a safe and joyous celebration for all.

The proactive approach taken by the Pune Police underscores their dedication to community well-being and promoting responsible celebrations.
