Pune Traffic Police Issue Final Notice To Clear Pending E-Challans, Warn Of Licence Suspension And Legal Action

Pune | February 26, 2026: The Pune Traffic Police have issued official notices to vehicle owners with pending traffic challans, directing them to clear their fines within 30 days. Authorities have warned that failure to pay within the stipulated period will invite strict legal action, including driving licence suspension and court proceedings.

According to the notice, if the fine is not paid within the given timeframe, the following actions may be initiated:

  • A proposal will be sent to the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) for suspension of the driving licence, or
  • The concerned challan case will be filed in court for legal proceedings.

How The Official Notice Will Be Sent 

Traffic police clarified that the notices will be sent only via SMS to the registered mobile numbers of vehicle owners through the official shortcode MHPECH-G.
The messages will be sent strictly between February 26, 27, 28 and March 1, 2026.

Citizens have been warned that any message outside this period, or any communication claiming to be from traffic police demanding fine payment, should be treated as suspicious and potentially fraudulent.

Official Channels To Pay Challans

Vehicle owners can pay their pending fines only through the following authorised platforms:

  • Official website: https://mahatrafficechallan.gov.in
  • Pune Traffic Police App (PTP App)
  • At the nearest traffic police office using QR code, debit card, credit card, or card payment

Cyber Safety Advisory

To prevent online fraud, Pune Traffic Police issued the following warnings:

  • No APK files will ever be sent by traffic police
  • Citizens must not share OTPs with anyone
  • Payments should be made only through official channels mentioned in the notice
  • Any suspicious links or calls should be reported immediately to the nearest police station

Objective of the Campaign

Officials said the drive aims to:

  • Encourage traffic rule compliance
  • Ensure transparent recovery of pending fines
  • Strengthen overall traffic discipline in Pune city

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav appealed to citizens to cooperate with the initiative and clear their pending challans within the stipulated period.

Authorities have reiterated that timely compliance will help avoid legal trouble and contribute to better traffic management and road safety across the city.
