Tulshibaug, Pune’s iconic shopping hub for women, is now covered with green nets to offer relief from the sweltering summer heat, ensuring a more comfortable shopping experience. With temperatures already hitting 40°C in mid-April, this initiative is being lauded as a thoughtful move, especially as the city braces for a scorching May.

For the first time in the country, an entire shopping street has been shaded with green netting, transforming Tulshibaug into a cooler zone for both customers and vendors. The initiative was launched jointly by the Nagar Path Vender Committee, Pune Municipal Corporation, and the BJP Pune City Hawkers’ Front under the coordination of Sagar Sunil Dahibhate.

Stretching nearly one kilometer, the green net covers areas from Bank of Maharashtra to Shree Gajanan Mandal Trust, the Jewelry Board, Kavare Cold Drinks, and the Tulshibaug Ganpati Temple. This coverage has been well received by shoppers and shopkeepers alike.

The project was inaugurated by local MLA Hemant Rasane on the occasion of his birthday. Speaking at the event, Rasane said, “As a public representative, I am committed to addressing the issues of the people. This social initiative to provide shade to shoppers in Tulshibaug reflects that commitment. Just as Indore is admired for its cleanliness, I hope the Kasba area in Pune will also become a model for the country.”

Rasane further assured continued efforts for the welfare of street vendors, traders, and local Ganesh mandals in the area. During the event, books based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj were distributed to women attendees.

The event was anchored by Pravin Sonar, while Sai Dongre delivered the vote of thanks.
