Officials from the anti-extortion unit 1 of the Pune crime branch have apprehended two individuals involved in online betting on an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match. The incident occurred during a match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at a private housing society in the Salisbury Park area.

The arrested individuals are identified as Wasim Bagwan (36) from Hadapsar and Tejas Ruparel (42) from the Salisbury Park area. Acting on a tip-off about illegal betting activities, the police raided the location where the accused were found accessing various betting websites using multiple IDs to deceive several individuals.

During the raid, law enforcement seized mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic devices from the spot. Sub-Inspector of the crime branch stated that the men were accepting bets for the IPL cricket match via an online application on behalf of an unidentified handler based in Pune, who provided them with commissions for each bet.

A case has been registered at Swargate police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, and Gambling Act. Additionally, five cellphones worth Rs 1 lakh were recovered during the operation. This marks the third instance of police raiding a betting circle and dismantling a racket since the commencement of the IPL T-20 cricket tournament.
