The Wagheshwar Temple in Maval has reopened after a prolonged closure. Devotees can now seek blessings from Lord Shiva at this revered temple nestled within the Pawna Dam. This architectural gem emerges from beneath the waters only for a brief period each year, providing access to devotees for a scant four months.

Constructed around 700 to 800 years ago, the temple, crafted in the Hemadpanthi style, stands as a testament to history and draws tourists with its unique charm. Despite suffering damages over time, including a collapsed spire and cracked walls, the main sanctum sanctorum remains intact, evoking a sense of reverence among visitors.

Historically significant, the temple is believed to have connections with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who is said to have paid homage here following his conquest of Konkan-Sindhudurg. It is recounted that the revered Maratha ruler made it a ritual to visit Wagheshwar Temple during his expeditions to Tikona or Tung forts.

With growing concerns about the temple’s preservation, calls have intensified for the Archaeological Department to intervene and safeguard this cherished heritage site. As devotees gather once again to partake in this annual pilgrimage, the enduring legacy of Wagheshwar Temple continues to captivate hearts and minds alike.
