Pune : Vilasrao Deshmukh Planetarium near Parvati to undergo renovation soon

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon start the renovation work of the famous Rajiv Gandhi Academy of E-Learning – Vilasrao Deshmukh Planetarium located in Parvati, Pune in order to refurbish & renovate the entire planetarium.

Pratik Patharkar, Branch Engineer, Bhavan Department, Pune Municipal Corporation said,  “ Ever since the inauguration of the planetarium, refurbishment and renovation work has not been carried out. Hence, the planetarium is closed for renovation. Works like wallpaper refurbishment, re-installation of proper seats etc will be carried out. However, the tendering process will begin in about 2 months time. After the renovation, the planetarium will be open to the public.”

Being one of a kind project by PMC, the planetarium is based on the latest 3D visualization digital technology. People have great curiosity about space. In order to satisfy their curiosity, audiovisual mode was used. This project has been created under the guidance of famous architect Anand Uplekar. Interestingly, 3D technology has been used without glasses.

The planetarium has a seating capacity of 52 people. Fulldome Pro, a world famous Russian manufacturer of full dome 3D films, has provided the server and software. Eight high-definition projectors, and high-performance modern sound systems are used. At present, the company has provided 20 films in English. It is also possible to show films in Marathi and Hindi.
