The rain and cloudy skies have brought much-needed relief from the sweltering heat of the past few days thought The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is yet to officially declare the advent of monsoon in the city.

However, On Thursday, the monsoon arrived in Maharashtra. Parts of Konkan and Kolhapur received rainfall, marking its arrival a day ahead of schedule. The monsoon is expected to cover the entire state within the next 48 hours.

Experts attribute the rain in Pune to the slow northward movement of a cloud mass over the region. This phenomenon will likely cause heavy to very heavy rain over Konkan and the adjacent ghats of Madhya Maharashtra. Pune city is also expected to experience heavy to intense rainfall between June 9-12. The IMD is in the process of issuing necessary guidelines and alerts.

In the past 24 hours, Shivajinagar received 14.3 mm of rainfall, and more rain is expected in the coming days.

The IMD has predicted an above-normal monsoon for India and Maharashtra. This forecast brings hope for a state plagued by water scarcity, fodder crises, and agrarian distress. Good rainfall will provide a boost for the upcoming cropping cycle and help alleviate water scarcity issues.
