Pune Weather Update: Yellow Alert Issued with Heavy Rain Expected
Pune, August 2, 2024 – A yellow alert has been issued for Pune today due to expected cloudy conditions and moderate rainfall. Following a weak monsoon in July 2023 and slightly above-average rainfall, Pune has experienced severe weather conditions this July, including instances of heavy rainfall and cloudbursts.
On July 24, Pune recorded 114 mm of rainfall, the highest in the past 66 years. June and July saw a total of 616 mm of rain, which is 184% above the average (346.4 mm).The IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in the following regions: Central Maharashtra from August 1-3, East Madhya Pradesh on August 1 and 2, Konkan and Goa on August 2 and 3, and the Gujarat Region on August 3.
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), as of the morning of July 30, Pune district had received 594.9 mm of rainfall, 98% more than the usual (300.6 mm). The IMD predicts that rainfall in Pune will intensify in August.
The IMD has also forecast heavy rain for Delhi and Kerala on August 1, with an orange alert issued for Delhi. Other states on orange alert for heavy rain include Maharashtra, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Goa.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely intense showers at isolated locations, is expected across Konkan, Goa, and East Madhya Pradesh.
Isolated areas in Uttarakhand, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka may also experience heavy to very heavy rains.
Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gujarat Region, Kerala, Mahe, and North Interior Karnataka are likely to see heavy showers.
Widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Karnataka, and Kerala & Mahe.
Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gujarat, Marathwada, Interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.
Scattered showers with thunderstorms may occur over Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Telangana.
Isolated rain with thunderstorms is possible in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Many regions across the country are experiencing flood-like conditions and landslides, with the Wayanad landslide resulting in numerous casualties. The IMD has advised the public to remain cautious.
