In a dramatic turn of events, a father and daughter’s road trip to Hyderabad took an unexpected detour when their vehicle became lodged in a massive pothole on the Mumbai-Pune Highway exit road toward the Old Mumbai Highway in Kiwale. What began as a straightforward journey quickly transformed into a rescue mission, as a crane was called in to extricate their car from the perilous crater. The incident highlights a serious issue with road infrastructure on this vital route. The pothole, described as crater-sized, rendered the vehicle immobile, forcing the use of heavy machinery to resolve the situation. The significant disruption not only halted the travellers’ plans but also brought attention to the broader problem of road maintenance in the region.
Milind Sarak, a resident from the area how highlighted the issue stated that the pothole was so huge that a car like Alcazar got fixed into it. We had to call for a crane to lift it. God knows when will the administration act upon the issue ? The family had a tough time as none halted and offered them help. A couple of Police vehicles stopped too but no one came forward to help them.
Prashant Konde, a frustrated local resident, expressed his concerns and told Pune pulse that “From road trips to rescue missions, it seems like every drive on this highway is an adventure in pothole navigation. The NHAI and other officials responsible for the service roads clearly haven’t addressed the issue. It’s been over six years, and this stretch on the Katraj-Dehuroad bypass remains in disrepair. The service roads are equally problematic, and all political leadership and the administration are equally to blame.”
Rajsingh Nimbalkar commented that the concerned authority and contractor must be booked for attempt to murder ? There should be strict laws to apprehend the corrupt officials that play with safety of the public and put their lives at risk.
Nitish, an X user commented that the entire service road from Bhumkar chowk to Kiwale is damaged in a similar way !!! Corruption at its peak!
