Pune: Wife Uncovers Husband’s Secret, Faces Torture From In-Laws

A shocking revelation turned into a nightmare for a woman who discovered her husband’s hidden truth—he was gay. After two years of marriage, the woman faced harassment from her in-laws, leading her to seek help from the police. The incident unfolded from January 2022 to April 17, culminating in a case registered at Mundhwa Police Station under the Family Violence Act.

The 33-year-old victim, residing in Mundhwa, complained to her 30-year-old husband, 64-year-old mother-in-law, and 40-year-old sister-in-law under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including IPC 498(A), 323, 504, 506, and 34. The events transpired in a posh society in Wanwadi.

According to the victim’s account, she married her husband in January 2022, unaware of his sexual orientation. He kept his homosexuality concealed, portraying a false image of marital life to avoid societal stigma. Additionally, the victim was burdened with the family’s financial responsibilities, including expenses her husband forced her to bear.

The complaint detailed instances of physical and mental abuse, with the victim being deprived of marital intimacy and subjected to verbal and physical assaults over trivial matters. The mother-in-law and sister-in-law added to her ordeal by constantly berating her, expressing regret for not marrying into a wealthier family.

Mundhwa police have initiated an investigation into the matter to gather further evidence and ensure justice for the victim. The case sheds light on the prevalence of domestic violence and the need for societal awareness and legal protection against such abuses.
