Rajpal Yadav Gets Financial Support After Surrendering at Tihar Jail
Bollywood colleagues step in as the comedy actor faces cheque-bounce case linked to a long-running loan dispute.
Rajpal Yadav, one of Bollywood’s most recognised comedy actors, has reportedly received financial support from members of the film industry after surrendering at Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a cheque-bounce case.
According to reports, the legal trouble dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. The film failed at the box office, leading to heavy financial losses and a prolonged dispute over repayment.
Over time, mounting interest and penalties reportedly pushed the total dues to nearly Rs 9 crore. The matter escalated into criminal proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act after several cheques issued towards clearing the dues were said to have bounced.
The Delhi High Court noted that Rajpal Yadav was required to pay Rs 1.35 crore in each of the seven cheque-bounce cases filed against him. The court also directed that the amount already deposited with the registrar general be released in favour of the complainant.
