Rapido Driver Insults Mumbai Techie, Calls Her ‘Child of a Beggar’ Over Extra Charges Dispute
In an alarming incident, a Rapido driver threatened the customer, saying, “Cancel the ride or I’ll hit you,” followed by an insult, “Child of a beggar.”
A tech professional from Mumbai alleges that a Rapido driver verbally abused and threatened her after attempting to charge her extra and subsequently requesting that she cancel the ride.
Ohshin Bhat posted a screenshot of the driver’s offensive message on the social media platform X.

Bhat explained that she had booked a cab through the ride-hailing service Rapido. She requested a cab from the ‘Rapido Economy class and got a Premium vehicle instead. Economy rides typically cost less than Premium ones, often using hatchbacks as cabs as opposed to the sedans that ply under the Premium category.
The driver had listed his cab under the Economy category, likely to attract more passengers. However, he insisted that the techie pay him an additional fee. When she declined, the Rapido driver resorted to insults and threats, pressuring her to cancel the ride.
When the customer declined to take the bait, the Rapido driver became increasingly aggressive. “Want to save money? Then walk!”
Her post gathered much attention online. Rapido had responded to her post.
“We fully understand the seriousness of this matter, and we deeply apologize for the captain’s unprofessional behavior. As requested earlier, kindly share the ride details via DM so that we can prioritize taking action against the captain and provide you with an update,” said the official statement from Rapido.
Numerous individuals expressed their astonishment at the driver’s comments and urged Rapido to take appropriate measures. Some claimed that Rapido employed the most poorly behaved drivers. “What in the world is going on? Why every time it’s Rapido,” said one user. “I’ve only ever used @rapidobikeapp bike service, and occasionally their auto service, but my experiences have been far from satisfactory. Once, when I booked a bike taxi, the driver handed me a construction-type helmet which was so poorly fitted that it fell off mid-ride and got run over. After he dropped me off, he followed me to my room on the terrace, arguing that I should pay for the damaged helmet. He ended up taking my own helmet and left.”
