Pune: Many services such as food delivery, cab services, and more will observe a mass bandh on October 25, 2023 (Wednesday) in Pune & Pimpri Chinchwad.

Baghtoy Rickshawala Association has put forth the demands of Uber, Ola, Swiggy, Zomato & others.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Keshav Kshirsagar, President, Baghtoy Rickshawala Association, Pune, said “Lakhs & lakhs of people will take part in the mass bandh on October 25. Also, the usual auto rickshaws & others will continue to run their services during the bandh. Only the services of Uber, Old, Swiggy, Zomato & other similar apps will remain closed for Wednesday.”

As per further information shared by Dr Keshav Kshirsagar, President, Baghtoy Rickshawala Association, Pune,

Top Demands of Cab Drivers:

1) The base rates of cabs should also be fixed similar to the rickshaw taxi meters, for which the recommendation of the Khatua committee should be accepted.

2) Companies like Everest Fleet etc should not ruin the everyday business of common cab drivers and should bring the said fleet under immediate control.

3) Not to steal outstation trips of common cab drivers by appointing private vendors.

4) Effective online or offline support systems/mechanisms should be created to solve any problem faced by the drivers during the trip.

5) Before taking any action like blocking ID or imposing fine on any driver, the passenger’s complaint should be investigated and brokers appointed for unblocking ID should be found and action should be taken against them. ID should not be blocked by allowing forgery.

6) Pick-up charges, waiting charges, passenger cancellation charges, night charges should be as before.

Top Demands of Rickshaw Pullers:

1) Platform fee should be stopped immediately, and waiting fee should be paid like meter.

2) As cabs are made cheaper than rickshaws on apps, rickshaws do not meet fares and cab drivers cannot afford fares.

Top Demands of Food / Parcel Delivery Persons:

1) Order rates should be uniform for all and should be increased by at least 50%.

2) There should be a mechanism to resolve delivery persons’ problems. The team leader must resolve the problems on priority.

3) There should be no difference between the distance shown on the phone and the actual distance. Also, the evasion/deceiving of the last order, done to prevent the delivery person from getting incentive should be stopped.

4) Before taking any action like blocking ID or imposing penalty on any delivery boy, the customer’s complaint should be verified, if it is the fault of the hotel, it should not be blamed on the delivery person. ID should not be blocked by giving false reasons.

5) There should be a facility to get minimum wages per day and compensation should be given if it is received.

These and similar questions are also common among workers working on apps like Porter and Urban Co. Almost 90% of these issues will be solved if the Maharashtra Gig Workers Act and Maharashtra Cab Aggregator Rules which they are demanding are implemented in the state.

A one-day symbolic bandh will be called on October 25, 2023, to ensure that these demands & more are met effectively soon.
