Baner, Pune: Residents from Baner, Balewadi, Sus, Mahalunge, and Pashan gathered at Radha Chowk in Baner today to protest against the administration’s inaction. Despite the heavy rain, the protest aimed to highlight critical local issues, including traffic congestion, pothole-ridden roads, and the need for alternative routes.

The protest saw significant participation from women and other community members, all demanding immediate improvements. Their key demands included:

  • Pothole-free roads
  • Appointment of traffic wardens
  • Activation of signal systems
  • Installation of barricades
  • Construction of a new underpass on NH-4
  • Improvement of NH-4 service roads
  • Swift commencement of the Balewadi-Wakad road project
  • Repair of the Mhalunge-Nande road

The absence of responsible officials at the protest led to the symbolic burning of a memorandum in a display of strong disapproval. The residents firmly stated their intention to continue their agitation until their demands are met.

Amol Balwadkar, speaking to Pune Pulse, emphasized the critical nature of these issues: “The ‘traffic’ problem at Baner-Balewadi-Sus-Mhalunge-Pashan must be solved. The administration must make the roads pothole-free, appoint a warden, activate the signal mechanism, and put up barricades. These are not demands; they are the rights of the citizens and the duty of the administration.”

The residents remain steadfast in their resolve, vowing to keep pressing the administration until tangible actions are taken to address their grievances.
