Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has embarked on an ambitious endeavor to curb road diggings within the city from April 30th to September 30th, 2024, aiming to enhance road quality and reduce inconvenience to citizens during the upcoming monsoon season.

PMC has laid out an extensive roadmap for infrastructure development, with crucial projects including the construction of highways and installation of pipelines, internet cables, drainage systems, rainwater drains, MNGL, and power lines along major roads. All these projects are slated for completion by April 30th.

Recognizing the disruptions caused by frequent road excavations and substandard repairs, authorities have mandated that all road excavation works must be concluded by April 30th. Subsequently, from May 1st to June 15th, the focus will shift to road repair and resurfacing activities across the city.

In a significant move, PMC has prohibited road digging within the city limits from May 1st to September 30th. Any violation of this directive during the specified period will result in stringent actions against the responsible parties.

Anirudda Pawaskar, Chief Engineer (Road) at PMC, emphasized the importance of this initiative, particularly during the rainy season when potholes become a major cause of inconvenience and accidents. He stated, “We take this initiative every year, but this year the notice has been issued a month in advance to ensure timely action. Road digging after April 30th will only be permitted for emergency cases.”

This proactive measure aims to tackle the perennial issue of pothole-ridden roads, especially during the monsoon, and aims to improve the overall driving experience for residents and commuters. With a strong commitment to completing projects on schedule and enforcing regulations rigorously, Pune is poised to witness a significant improvement in infrastructure and smoother traffic flow.
