Hours After BCCI Names Gambhir New Head Coach, Rohit Sharma’s Wife Ritika Breaks Internet with Post for Rahul Dravid

Rohit Sharma’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, penned an emotional note for former India head coach Rahul Dravid, whose tenure came to an end with India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign. This heartfelt message came just hours after BCCI appointed Gautam Gambhir as the legendary cricketer’s successor.

Ritika shared Rohit’s emotional post on her Instagram story late Tuesday night, highlighting how close Dravid was to the Sharma family. Ritika revealed that their daughter, Samaira, would miss Dravid the most, writing, “So many emotions, you mean so much to our entire family. You will be missed so much. I think Sammy will miss you the most.”

Rohit Sharma, in his tribute, mentioned that Ritika referred to Dravid as his “work wife,” a term of endearment that reflected their close working relationship. He expressed his gratitude and admiration for Dravid, emphasizing his humility and dedication to the game.

“My wife (Ritika Sajdeh) refers to you as my work wife and I am lucky to get to call you that too,” wrote Rohit. He shared how Dravid’s presence made the team feel comfortable and valued. “You are an absolute stalwart of this game, but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you,” Rohit wrote, praising Dravid’s humility and passion for cricket.

Rohit also reminisced about his early days in the senior team under Dravid’s captaincy in 2007 and revealed that it was a phone call from Rohit that convinced Dravid not to resign after losing the ODI World Cup final last year.

During the Rohit-Dravid era, India achieved significant milestones, including home Test series wins against Australia and England, reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in 2022, the finals of the World Test Championship in 2023, and the ODI World Cup at home the same year. Their journey culminated in winning the T20 World Cup, India’s first ICC trophy in 11 years, by defeating South Africa in the final.

As the new head coach, Gambhir’s tenure is set to last until December 2027. The transition marks the end of a successful era under Dravid, who left behind a legacy of accomplishments and strong bonds within the team.
