Rotaraii to protect green cover of Baner hill; aims to plant 5000 trees

Tree Plantation Project ‘Rotaraii ‘ of Rotary Club Of Poona North and partner clubs in association with NGOVasundhara abhiyaanwill be launched  on 7am, Sunday, 22nd August 2021. Maneesha Konkar, President, Rotary Club Of Poona North informed through a press release. This long term sustainable and impact creating environmental project is going to be on top of the Baner hill.The name of project is inspired with ‘Devrai’-marathi word for sacred groves, an Ancient Tradition of Nature Conservation.

Pankaj Shah(District Governor), Samir Rupani (District Environment Chairman), Maneesha Konkar( President of Rotary Club of Poona North), Kiran Rao (President of RC Sports City), Hemant Joshi (President, Rotary Club of Warje), Chandrakant Bhujbal (Trustee of Vasundhara Abhiyan,Baner) are guests for launching ceremony. Members of Rotary Club of  Poona North, Rotary Club of  Sports city, Rotary club of Warje will be present at the launching ceremony. During the inauguration  short talk on various native trees and their importance to the Sahyadri ecosystem, is also organized.

Nurturing and survival of 5 thousand plants

To ensure Biodiversity and a sustainable eco-system a number of Sahyadri native plants would be planted. This is an ongoing project of the NGO Vasundhara Abhiyan, who have transformed Baner Pashan hill since 2016.The aim is for Rotary to join hands with Vasundhara Abhiyan and create a complete ecosystem in the next 10 years. The number of plants during the year is planned for 5000 trees. What is crucial is not just planting the trees but their nurturing and survival, informed Mohan Poojary, Director, Service Projects, Rotary Club of Poona North and Girish Kinkar, Chairman for Project ‘Rotaraii’.
