The school which took the initiative of plastic collection for making road is Indus School in Bhugaon. While Keshav Sita Foundation have received plastic from other schools too are Abhinav School, Cummins School, Vibgyor School and many more. In total over 25 schools are affiliated with an organization named Keshav Sita Foundation.

The collected plastic waste, totalling around 1 tonne from schools so far, is handed over to the foundation who then recycles it. According to Mayur Hadgal, collection manager, Keshav Sita Foundation, “We go to these schools and collect plastic waste once in a month. It is important to spread plastic awareness among the public and to make them understand that plastic is one of the main causes for several environmental conditions affecting the society.”

They have further initiated a project on using plastic waste tar for road maintenance. Selecting a road near the school in Bhugaon, the students are getting it repaired with this innovative material. The project not only promotes sustainability but also supports community development.

To fund this initiative, the team reached out to multiple businesses and renowned groups. These sustained efforts by today’s school children speak volumes about their understanding of the importance of the environment and their readiness to work tirelessly to keep it safe for generations to come.
