The Shiv Sena (Shinde Faction) panel in Mahadev Wadi–Undri has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform the locality into Pune’s first Hi-Tech, Smart, and Sustainable Model Ward. The development blueprint centers on modern infrastructure, digital governance, environmental conservation, and citizen-inclusive planning. With rapid urbanization in southern Pune, the panel aims to position Mahadev Wadi–Undri as a benchmark for responsible and technology-driven urban growth.

Leading the initiative are panel members Pramod Vasant Bhangire, Swati Ananta Takale, Sarika Pawar, and Machindra Dagade, who collectively presented the proposed civic upgrades and future vision for the ward. They emphasized that the initiative is not only about beautification but about building a functional, efficient, and ecologically balanced urban model for the coming decades.

The core vision is to develop a Smart, Green, and Hi-Tech Mahadev Wadi–Undri, driven by:

■ Sustainable living practices
■ Digital civic administration
■ Clean and renewable energy systems
■ Efficient use of urban resources
■ Community participation and inclusive development

According to the panel, this vision aligns with modern urban planning principles and responds to the needs of residents who face challenges linked to traffic, waste management, public amenities, and environmental degradation.

Key Objectives

The proposed model ward framework focuses on five primary objectives:

■ Providing world-class urban infrastructure
■ Achieving environmental sustainability through green initiatives
■ Implementing transparent and technology-based e-governance
■ Generating local employment through skill development and eco-friendly enterprises
■ Protecting and enhancing biodiversity and ecological balance

These objectives are designed to address both current and emerging needs of a growing urban population.

Major Focus Areas & Proposed Projects

1. SMART WATER & SANITATION
The plan includes:
■ Rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge structures
■ Smart water meters and leak detection technologies
■ Greywater recycling through decentralized sewage treatment (DEWATS)
■ 24×7 access to clean drinking water enabled through upgraded pipelines

These systems are intended to reduce water wastage and improve long-term water security.

2. SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT & CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Key interventions include:
■ Door-to-door segregation of wet, dry, and hazardous waste
■ Community composting and biogas plants to power public facilities
■ Plastic and e-waste collection centers
■ Promotion of recycling and upcycling businesses

The objective is to reduce landfill burden and generate circular economy jobs.

3. RENEWABLE ENERGY & SMART POWER
To reduce carbon emissions and dependence on traditional power sources, the ward will promote:
■ Rooftop solar installations on public and residential buildings
■ Solar-powered LED street lights equipped with motion sensors
■ Electric charging points for essential civic services
■ Public workshops on energy-efficient consumption

4. SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY & TRAFFIC
Mobility reforms include:
■ Dedicated cycling tracks and pedestrian-friendly corridors
■ EV charging stations at key nodes
■ Smart adaptive traffic signal systems
■ Enhanced public transport and safe last-mile connectivity

These upgrades aim to decongest roads and support public movement needs of a growing urban population.

Leadership & Community Backing

Beyond future planning, Pramod Vasant Bhangire has played a significant role in shaping the locality through past civic and cultural initiatives that have benefitted residents. Even without holding office in recent years, he continued to drive projects focused on healthcare, public spaces, and community welfare.

NOTABLE PAST INITIATIVES INCLUDE:
■ Late Dashrath Bablu Bhangire Hospital (2021) – a much-needed public healthcare facility
■ Vegetable Market at NIBM Annexe – reducing road congestion and improving access
■ Dharmaveer Anand Digle Garden – converted from a dumping ground into a community park
■ Mohamadwadi Reading Center – citizen-driven beautification and social interaction space
■ Siddheshwar Mahadev Mandir & Shri Ram Chowk – enhancing spiritual and cultural identity

Residents have acknowledged that these efforts elevated civic amenities, strengthened cultural belonging, and created a sense of local pride. According to many, the new model ward vision represents a continuation of this development approach—aiming to build a smart, self-reliant, and environmentally conscious Mahadev Wadi–Undri for the future.
