On February 21, 2024 according to a Government Railway Police Official, more than 54 Detonators were found in Mumbai on the platform of Kalyan Railway Station in Thane.

As per the information, the Railway Police came across 54 boxes which were lying on platform number one without any supervision after which the dog squad and the Bomb Detection and  Disposal Squad(BDDS) were called immediately to investigate the matter, as it is a very crowded area and full of people.

Senior Police officials and Thane police reached immediately upon getting the information about the unsupervised boxes.

As the BDDS team reached, it found boxes and removed 54 detonators at the platform. The police have launched a probe but a case is yet to be registered against the same.  

In Thane, detonators are usually used to catch fish illegally or to carry out quarry blasting operations. It is also used to send shock waves in the water which kills the fish.
