Shocking Video: Passenger Tears Train Seat Cover, Ignites Public Outrage
Indian Railways frequently faces scrutiny over issues like overcrowding, poor cleanliness, and inconsistent food quality. However, passenger vandalism is another major concern, as illustrated by a recent viral video that has outraged many online.
In the viral footage, a young man is seen ripping a seat cover inside an Indian Railway coach and tossing it out of the window of a moving train. The incident, which seems to have taken place at night, captures the man smiling while he performs this act, seemingly for a social media video. The clip has generated significant backlash, with many condemning it as a clear act of vandalism and environmental damage due to the littering involved.

The video shared by Mr. Sinha on the social media platform X was captioned, “The same person will later speak to a YouTuber, blaming the government and complaining about the poor condition of railways.” Indian Railways has not yet provided an official response to this incident.
This incident is not unique; a similar case of vandalism occurred at Basti railway station in Uttar Pradesh, where passengers damaged the Antyodaya Express. Frustrated by locked doors, they used stones to break the glass on the train’s entry doors. A viral video captured people removing window grills to gain access to the train.

Another post on X stated, “Angry passengers threw stones at the coach because the gate of the 15101 Antyodaya Express at Mankapur railway station wouldn’t open, breaking the glass and causing a stampede inside the train, which was traveling from Chhapra to Mumbai.”
Officials have indicated that overcrowding contributed to the chaos. The Times of India reported that railway officials mentioned the train was extremely full, leading passengers inside to lock the coach to prevent more people from boarding. This frustrated those waiting to get on at Basti railway station.
Such acts of vandalism not only damage public property but also compromise passenger safety, further exacerbating the challenges faced by Indian Railways.
It is crucial for both passengers and authorities to work together to maintain the integrity of public transport systems.
