Several societies adopting green initiatives were recently felicitated for their work. But despite this, a few societies are feeling dejected because of the negligence shown by the PCMC.

A resident alleged that the PCMC is only favouring a few selected societies everytime and neglecting the ones which are adopting the green intiatives.
“Our society is the oldest one in Pimple Saudagar. And we are running many projects like waste composting, solar project, bird feeders but still we have not received any rating. Only a few selected ones are being honoured. We are still waiting for rebate in tax. We feel disappointed even after putting in similar inputs, “ said Vinod Surve, chairman, Kunal Icon.

“We are doing composting in our society for the last 5 years, we have a roof top solar project for the last 4 years, we are compositing waste too. Yet no one from PCMC has come to survey our society. We are also doing rain water harvesting project in the society, ” said Virendra Chavan, chairman Siddhivinayak Ginger.

“Our society is running many projects but no survey has been done yet. The rebate offered is not so encouraging. There are many societies who cannot afford to implement this but are still doing it. PCMC should rethink on the tax rebate,” said Arun Deshmukh, Secretary, Nisarg Pooja Society.

“Our team is doing survey of societies. We gave star rating to three societies on experimental basis. Those societies who are eligible have been given star rating to them at initial stage for D zone and G zone. Currently we have list of almost 30 societies. Soon, we will do the survey. Our team is reaching to societies now,” Umakant Gaikwad, Zonal Officer, D Ward.

“Our Sarvekshan team is conducting society survey and once it’s done we will come to know exactly which society is conducting eco friendly initiatives,” said Rajesh Patil Commissioner, PCMC.
